In ancient Greece, choregos (Greek: χορηγός = chorus leader from χορός (chorus) + ἡγεῖσθαι (hegeísthai; to lead)) was an honorary title for the wealthy Athenian, who assumed the public duty (or "liturgy") of financing and paying all the expenses of the preparation of the chorus and of the drama in all.
